*PuttaswamyGowda, the Block Education Officer (BEO)of K RPet in Mandya district, arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a minor, has been remanded in 14 days, judicial custody.*
Puttaswamy Gowda was produced before a magistrate's house late on Saturday evening.
Following a complaint by the 16-year-old girl, the Kuvempunagar police had arrested the Block Education Officer at his Mandya residence on Friday.
Acting on the recommendations of the deputy director of public instructions (DDPI), Mandya, Deputy Commissioner Dr AjayNagabushan ordered the suspension of the officer on Saturday.

Sold into prostitution*
According to the complaint filed by the victim, she was forced into prostitution by her motherLeela, the prime accused in the case.
Leela had allegedly sold her daughter for Rs 75,000 to the official two years ago. She had connived with her friendGeetha, who runs brothels at 'E'and 'F'blocks at Ramakrishna Nagar. It was at Geetha's house thatGowda and his friends were sexually exploiting the victim. Geetha has already been arrested. Leela, however, is at large.
Apart from Gowda , a doctor, a bank manager, a journalist and two businessmen, including one from Kerala, have been responsible for sexually assaulting her, the victim said.
Police have launched a manhunt for the remaining accused who are at large.
Puttaswamy Gowda, said to be highly influential, is in the coterie of K R Pet Congress legislator, KBChandrashekar, who is contesting the Assembly elections on May 5, police sources said.
He has been accused of misbehaving with female colleagues in the past as well. However, no police complaint had been lodged in this regard, it is learnt.

Police praised the girl who showed exemplary courage in contacting Police Commissioner KLSudheer.
The Commissioner, who was contacted by the girl on his cellphone three days ago, referred the case to the Special Juvenile Police (SJP). SJP.
The SJPin assistance with Kuvempunagar police, andOdanadi, a non-governmental organisation, busted the racket by arresting Gowda and Geetha.
