*Some of the best chess players in the country tested their mettle, on round three and four of the All India FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament, here on Tuesday.*
The ten round event is being organised by the Mysore District Chess Association. As many as 200 participants from across the country are competing in the tournament, which will culminate on April 1.
The competition was inaugurated on Monday, where two rounds were held.
Several FIDE rated players were part of the competition, striving to improve their international rankings.
Winner of the tournament held last year, Kunal M of Tamil Nadu had to satisfy for a draw in the third round, after a player from Karnataka, Varma Shabdik, rated lower than Kunal, matched move to move and shared the point.
Syed Anwar Shazuli, Tamil Nadu, rated second in the tournament also satisfied for a draw, after an entertaining match with a young Senthil Maran, also from Tamil Nadu.
R Vaishali from Tamil Nadu, who is the gold medallist in the under-17 girls in an international youth championship last year, had it easy, as she outclassed Raviprakash S M from Mysore.
Augustin A from Madikeri, State under-17 champion also tasted victory in round three after defeating Bhandari Nilesh from Karnataka.
