*Karnataka's challenge in the KTPPA-AITA National under-12 tennis championship came to an end as five players from the State crashed out in the quarterfinal stage here at the Tennis Village courts on Thursday.*
In the boys' section, Arjun Sriram was expected to overcome a lower-ranked S Boopathy, instead the Tamil Nadu player registered a facile 6-1, 6-0 win over the seventh seed.
Qualifier PMPrasanna, who had enjoyed a brilliant run up to the quarterfinals, was served a double bagel by third seed Mahesh Mohapatra of Orissa.
Much was expected of the three girls -- Chandrika Joshi, Parvvi Patil and Reshma Maruri -- from the State who made it to the last-eight stage but the trio fell by the wayside.
Chandrika looked in good nick against Bhakti Parwani before failing to wrest the initiative in her 6-3, 3-6, 1-6 loss to the Gujarati. Parvvi barely stood a chance as she was put away by top seed Mubashir Anjum Shaik 6-3, 6-3, while Reshma went down to Andhra Pradesh's Fathima Juveri 4-6, 4-6.
