*Two months after the Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation programme for teenagers began in the State, the government is still in the process of gathering information on it. *

Health officials said that since it was a new programme being implemented jointly by the departments of women and child development and education, the collection of reports from districts and their formulation in a uniform pattern was taking time.

As a preventive (prophylactic) measure, the State government launched the programme for girl students of Class 6-12. Besides, in order to provide the tablets to out-of-school girls, the programme is implemented through anganawadis. It aims to address anaemia among adolescents, especially girls.

A recent National Family Health survey found that 51.5 per cent of adolescent girls in Karnataka are anaemic. The percentage of anaemics has only increased among women of reproductive age, pregnant women and children under three years of age. Reported by Deccan Herald 16 hours ago.
