*No adequate provision of toilets and drinking water, frequent power cuts and insufficient supply of midday meals. Such is the sorry state of affairs in some government and corporation schools in north-west Delhi's Jahangirpuri.*
To bring the matter to notice, some 40 children wrote postcards to Chief Justice of High Court B D Ahmed.
The Right to Education postcard campaign was organised by a child rights group.
A class 9 student of Government Girls' Senior Secondary School, K-Block, Jahangirpuri wrote, "The toilets in our school remain dirty and if we complain about it to teachers, they scold us. The better toilets are reserved for teachers. Also, there is no proper provision of drinking water on the school premises."
*Infrastructure crunch
*"There is inadequate number of benches in the school — three students have to share a single bench."
Children from Municipal Corporation Primary School in Jahangirpuri said insufficient amount of midday meal is served to them.
"Sometimes, we don't get midday meals properly; the quantity is too less," wrote a class
3 student.
Students from Government Boys' Senior Secondary School, K-Block, said the authorities have complete disregard for hygiene and
cleanliness.
"The school faces the problem of waterlogging during rain, and also there are frequent power cuts. Fans, bulbs and tubelights are missing in many classrooms," wrote a student.
"Teachers generally are rude to children. Most of them don't come regularly to school; hardly three or four are present on a given day.
As a result, out of eight periods, only two to four take place," the student wrote.
*Overcrowding
*Children from Government Girls' Senior Secondary School, A-Block, said there is enormous overcrowding in classrooms.
One student wrote there are 64 students in her section of class 7.
The students have asked the Chief Justice to intervene in the matter. Reported by Deccan Herald 9 hours ago.
