*Over the past 15 years, the Indo-US relationship has undergone a remarkable transformation forged on the basis of shared democratic values such as pluralism, tolerance and respect for fundamental freedoms, said USDeputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) of South and Central Asia Alyssa Ayres here on Wednesday.*

Speaking on 'Fostering Business Between US and India' at an interactive session with ICT women entrepreneurs organised by WeConnect and Nasscom, Ayres reinforced the importance given to women empowerment by the USadministration under President Obama and a critical aspect of foreign policy.

"Obama has brought together government, businesses and advocacy organisations to inspire girls to excel in science, technology, engineering, and math. He understands that addressing the low participation rate of women and girls in fields like computer science and engineering benefits both their careers and our economies," she said.

Ayres said the US President and Secretary of State John Kerry understand that increasing the representation of women and girls in scientific and technical fields is not only a national imperative, but a global one.

"As science, technology, engineering and math become ever more important in an increasingly interconnected global economy, the potential for progress is enormous. The cost of excluding half the world's population from this progress would be dire indeed."
She also pointed that advances in the ICT field were bringing about enormous changes around the world. "Access to computers and mobile technologies are changing lives of students and farmers and entrepreneurs everywhere, opening up new avenues for learning, employment and business," she said.

Ayres accompanied a delegation of senior women leaders from major US corporations, including Citrix, Goldman Sachs, HTC, Intel, Microsoft and Twitter. The delegation shared with women entrepreneurs their experience of doing business in the US market and overseas.

Dana Contreras who works with Twitter shared her expereince of having mentors. "Mentors can really resove all major issues that we come across while taking business decisions," she said. Reported by Deccan Herald 3 days ago.
