Panaji, May 23 : Goa's first batch of SSC students under no-fail policy notched up an impressive 85.34 pass percentage with girls securing 85.49 percent as compared to a little less 85.19 percent for boys. The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education declared the results Thursday evening. Over 20,000 students had appeared for the exams, which began on March 28 and ended on April 8, 2013, across 24 centers. While 86 schools have achieved above 95 percent, 746 students have passed the exams with the help of sports merit marks. The students have excelled in languages with the highest cent percent score in Urdu, followed by Sanskrit, French, Hindi, official language Konkani, Marathi and lastly English. The Board officials said that this year's percentage has been far better than last year's which recorded 73.38 pass percentage - a drop by close to 13 percent as against 2011's 86.50 pass percentage. The poor performance was as a result of tougher grading system.
